Spooky, Scary Garage Door Decor for Halloween

Spooky, Scary Garage Door Decor

Spooky, Scary Garage Door Decor for Halloween
If there’s one thing we love about Halloween, it’s the costumes. There’s something so exciting about a day where you’re free to dress up as anyone, or anything you want! Well, here at The Garage Door Center, we love this concept so much that we don’t think dressing up should be limited to only homeowners and their families. We feel the opportunity should be extended to their homes as well — and their garage doors in particular. With that said, we bring you some of the most creepy yet creatively decorated garage doors for this spooky occasion.

Munching Garage Monster

What a genius way to use your automatic garage door to your creative advantage! This fierce looking monster chomps down on his teeth every time the garage door is lifted. Perfect for playing a Halloween trick on your treaters.

Beware: Walking Dead Inside!

For all you zombie loving Walking Dead fans, this one’s for you. All it takes is some hand tracing on black construction paper, a scissor and a little bit of tape. Then just light up your garage from the inside and enjoy the creepy bone-chilling.

Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble

Pay homage to a Halloween staple, the wicked witch. This spooky decorator cut out and painted a cauldron scene from wood, and then backlit the creation with glowing orange lights. The only downside to this design is you won’t be able to make use of your garage while it’s in place.

Contacting All Halloween Spirits

Grab a roll of black contact paper and a sharp box cutter to work creating your ultimate Halloween scene. This homeowner nailed all the basics: Black cat, jack-o-lantern, creepy tree, bats and a full moon!

This Is Halloween!

If you can’t get enough of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, why not make Jack Skellington himself a part of your holiday decor? Just another great way to utilize contact paper to make a spooky impact.

Ding-Dong, The Witch is Dead

Simple, yet eye-catching. We love this idea! It’s so easy you can even add it to your decor last minute if you want to pack an extra punch before your trick-or-treaters arrive.

Time to Wrap It Up

To finish off today’s post, let’s wrap it up mummy style. Grab a roll of toilet paper or white plastic (similar to caution tape, if you can find it), and get to wrapping. The best part? It doesn’t matter how messy you go. The messier the better, as long as you don’t forget those peek-a-boo eyes.

How did you decorate your home for the holiday? We’d love to see your creepy creations on your Facebook page.

It’s true, we often take our garage doors for granted. How easy it is to press a button and have instant access to your home with an armful of groceries. Likewise, it’s also easy to forget that like most things in a home, your garage door needs some extra TLC once in awhile. If it’s been some time since you last checked on your beloved garage door, here are a few places you can start.

The Panels

How is your garage door holding up at a glance? If you notice damage to the door’s panels, it’s best to have them repaired before winter. Not only will existing damage be more likely to increase with the cold wet weather ahead, but any holes can also let cold air and unwelcome critters in.

The Hinges

Next up are your garage door’s hinges. These allow the panels to bend as the door is raised up and folded in towards the back of the garage. Dents, damage or signs of rust should never be ignored.

The Springs

This part of your garage door’s system is meant to keep your garage door from flying open or slamming shut. Test the spring tension by opening your garage door manually, halfway. It should stay in place half open. If it doesn’t, your springs may need repair.

The Cables

These allow your door to open and close with ease. Spot check for worn and frayed srtrips, and have them replaced as soon as possible. If they snap the door can come crashing down and risk injuring an unsuspecting family member.

The Rollers

Working in tandem with the cables, these keep your door opening and closing smoothly. Open your garage door slowly and listen for any rubbing or screaching noises. If you’re having a tough time rolling it up, lubricate the rollers a bit and try again before calling in a pro.

4 Signs Your Garage Door Is Waving The White Flag

4 Signs Your Garage Door Is Waving The White Flag

Just like everything else in your home, your garage door can become run down and damaged over time. While carrying out proper maintenance duties can help prolong its lifespan, sometimes situations call for a completely new installation altogether. Here’s how to tell if it’s time to repair, or to throw in the towel and install a new garage door instead.

4 Signs Your Garage Door Is Waving The White Flag | Garage Door Repair Farfield CT | The Garage Door Center

#1: Opening and closing is difficult.

If your garage door opener is on the fritz often, it’s time to call in the pros. It may be that your opener needs repairing, or it could indicate an issue with the door itself. If you don’t have an automatic opener and are having problems, it will definitely require some repairs.

#2: There’s a ton of unnecessary noise.

Basic movement sounds are to be expected as your garage door makes its way open. However, an overwhelming amount of creaks, squeaks and groans is your door’s way of calling out for help.

#3: Saggy, drooping sections are apparent.

If you have an overhead door, you should be able to open it halfway without it rising or falling. If you have an automatic opener, you should be checking the balance on your garage door each month, and call a pro in for repairs when needed.

#4: Your energy bills are through the roof.

With winter on its way, the time to start sealing up and insulating your home is now. That being said, it might be beneficial to replace that old single-ply garage door with a newer, better insulated alternative.

Not sure if your garage door is ready for a replacement, but could use an expert opinion? Whether it’s a new installation or simple repair work you seek, The Garage Door Center of Fairfield CT is here to assist.
